History
The wellington boot was introduced in 1817 by one of Britain's finest soldiers. Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington. The Duke asked his shoemaker to design a calfskin boot which worked better with trousers than the traditional curvy topped boot designed to go with breeches. The boots soon caught on with patriotic British gentlemen eager to copy the Iron Duke and grew in popularity during the 1830/40s. Boots changed from leather to rubber in the 1850s.
