HOW TO WEAR COLOURED WELLIES AND WHAT WITH...
Personally, I prefer to wear my wellies with a mini skirt or shorts in the summer and with jeans tucked in in the winter.
But who cares what I think..have a look at what other people say. I did a bit of a questionaire in the village pub...
"wellies are so sexy!"
"patterned wellies are just too cool for school!"
"It's a good idea to keep some wellies in the boot so that they are to hand when you are out and about. English weather is so changeable"
"I like wearing my boots and nothing else!"
"I think it looks better if you fold your jeans up a couple of times on the outside of your boots instead of tucking them in"
"Golden rule number 1. Do not wear black and a colour together"
Rainy days are dreary enough; brighten up your day from the ground up. The latest trend splish-splash footwear are brightly and colorfully-pattered wellingtons. They are a lot like the rubber boots you probably wore as a kid, except with way more kick.
Wearing these boots fashionably is not as tricky as it might seem; they key is keeping the rest of your outfit simple and casual.
Forget about wearing brightly polka dotted or bright striped rubber boots with a business suit. Find a cute pair of jeans or a summery skirt that's at least mid-thigh length. If you want to wear a more professional look but you still want the practicality of a rubber boot, go for a tartan patterned boot or a plain coloured wellie boot that you can show off while still appearing professional.
You can tuck the bottom of your pants neatly into your boots or you can roll them up to create cuffs that fall just at the top of the boots. You could also wear your pants over top of the boots but then you run the risk of soaking the bottoms of your pants, plus you don't get to show off your hot, new boots.
Garden boots - or what the British and the fashion crowd call wellies (named after Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington) - have been around since the 19th century, though it took a couple of hundred years for their stylish update and hard-to-miss comeback.
Gardeners, of course, have long known the virtues of this utilitarian footware. But the current wellies craze may have started on the catwalk courtesy of designers such as Emilio Pucci, Burberry and Marc Jacobs. Thanks to these luxury brands, the boots are now as fashionable as they are functional.
Garden boots are the perfect accessory when planting flowers, washing the car, or managing the mud (camping trips, for instance) because of their waterproof material and easy cleanup. And they're comfortable, too - cozy cotton lining and soft rubber soles help keep feet warm and cushioned in such unpleasant conditions as standing on the sidelines during your kids' foul-weather soccer games or squatting when pruning the roses or washing Fido.
